September 11, 2001 was a day in our nation’s history that was undeniably heartbreaking and palpable. The billows of fire and smoke from the planes’ impact seem analogous to the forged particles of fear, rage, uncertainty, and loss that saturated the nation and the world.

Looking through the lens of heart, this day in time distilled the essence of humanity- the embodiment love and connection for one another. Understandably, personal and collective emotional energetics felt on 9/11 led to intense human suffering, yet this shared experience has become transformative not only for the families who lost their loved ones, but for the communities whose members are no longer contributing to civic initiatives and well-being.

After the devastation, there was a beckoning and response to shape the future in such a way that reverence for those lost and the rebirth of the city became one. The transformation born out of this memorable day can only be characterized as unbridled acts of compassion, genius, unity, belief, and love.

Resilience continues to be one of the most important aspects throughout the healing and growth process. The beautiful and varied memorials have and will continue to pay tribute in such a way that evokes the highest qualities necessary for individual and shared well-being. Generative, interdependent dialogues that feed the social field create coherent communities and now more than ever our children, our families, our workplaces, and our world need this.

As you find inner stillness, as you remember and acknowledge the human, spiritual, familial and social loss, also remember that you’re contributing to the evolution of this shared experience and that your heart’s intelligence can guide you to find peace, and when you do, share it- fully.
